Welcome Home Cowboy.

The Holbrooke Hotel, located in the heart of gold country, has a storied past and welcomed guests including presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison, and James Garfield, authors Mark Twain and Jack London, and the infamous Black Bart.

Recently brought into the National Exchange Hotel Company family, the Hotel will remain open during an extensive renovation, restoring the property to its former glory.

We invite you to walk the western-victorian halls, saddle up to a whiskey in the historic Golden Gate Saloon, or grab a bite on the patio.

In laws & Outlaws welcome.

The Golden Gate Saloon was originally built by Stephen and Clara Smith along with the Adams Express Office, but both structures were destroyed along with most of Grass Valley in the fire of 1855. As soon as the fire was out, the Smith's reopened the saloon under a tent and continued to serve the best whiskey, mead, and wine available. Soon after, the popular saloon was rebuilt as a one story field-stone building with a brick facade, making it safer from the threat of another fire.

The Golden Gate Saloon is the oldest, continuously operated saloon west of the Mississippi River.
